How Steve Jobs Escaped the Garage

The internet has the power to create thousands upon thousands of overnight successes.

The fields of pop culture, business, politics, public activism and others are jammed with people and companies who gain fleeting fame and attention.

Not so much, with true pioneers and game-changers who defy all odds and set generational trends. Those folks are very hard to come by.

It’s highly exclusive company when referring to the likes of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Albert Einstein.

Besides changing our universe as we know it, they all came from humble beginnings somewhere.

And Steve was no exception.

In his case, it was a ranch-style bungalow that blends in perfectly with the rest of the cribs on his street. But, inside that otherwise ordinary home and its adjacent garage, an extraordinary chain of events unfolded that triggered a social, cultural, commercial and technology revolution that still rocks our world to this day.

A recent trip to Silicon Valley afforded the opportunity to swing by that childhood home and reflect on the Leadership Legacy of Steve Jobs on this edition of Leaders & Legends.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary” STEVE JOBS

p.s… One of the better first-hand descriptions of what Jobs was really like as a business person comes from “Good to Great” author Jim Collins who happened to pick up the phone one day and give Steve a call. https://chiefexecutive.net/jim-collins-real-lesson-steve-jobs/
